在一般情況下，通常高丹寧(tannin)的葡萄品種通常具有較多的花青素(anthocyanins)都具有偏深的酒色，同時在年輕時顏色很容易就是明亮的紅寶石色澤甚至是紫色，但Nebbiolo 這個品種是個較為常見的例外。
